Our Story

MVAH had humble beginnings in 1968. Dr. Walter Brown opened the hospital in a garage next to his home near the current hospital and operated out of this small space until the current building was built in 1969. The site was a good choice due to its convenient location in Amesbury on Route 110 and its proximity to Routes 495 and 95. Dr. Brown provided veterinary care for the regions' pets for 30 years. In 1998 he sold the hospital to Dr. Cynthia Wojcicki, a native of Amesbury. Interestingly, Dr. Wojcicki’s family had brought their pets to Dr. Brown over the years, and Dr. Wojcicki had even applied for a kennel job at MVAH in 1975 but was turned down!

Soon after purchasing the business, Dr. Wojcicki began extensive renovations to the building, and removed the house and garage from the property. Currently the spacious 5000 square foot building provides safe, comfortable facilities for pets and people. The hospital has a large public reception area with three exam rooms; a completely stocked pharmacy and Hill’s Pet Nutrition retail area; laboratory facilities, a digital x-ray room, a surgery room, a large treatment area with two dedicated exam areas and a dental suite; an isolation ward; housing for more than 30 pets; as well as office and storage space. MVAH is completely computerized and maintains electronic medical records making transfer of information simple and fast. The hospital frequently receives praise for its professional, clean and odor free environment. The building is handicapped accessible with ample parking on site.

The modern, well-equipped building helps the Health Care Team at MVAH provide exceptional care to its patients. This dedicated professional Team works together to make sure that everyone’s experience is informative, compassionate and caring. The breadth of medical knowledge on the Team is truly staggering. The doctors alone have more than 70 years of experience between them! The nursing and customer care staff is likewise eminently competent and experienced. Michelle and Kim have been at MVAH longer than even Dr. W! The team routinely receives training on customer care; they value the long - term relationships with clients that often last through several pets’ lifetimes.

The Team truly loves what they do. They have dedicated their working lives to the care of pets and take pride in the quality care they bring to their clients and patients in the Amesbury, Newburyport, and Salisbury communities.
